Assessing the cost-effectiveness of single-dose hepatitis B revaccination for infants born to hepatitis B-infected mothers not responding to the initial vaccination series
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recently updated its recommendation that infants born to Hepatitis B-infected mothers should receive Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (HBIG) and a complete 3-dose hepatitis B vaccine series within 6 months of birth. After post-vaccination serologic testing, infants whose anti-HBs levels are <10 mIU/mL are considered unprotected and should receive an additional single dose of hepatitis B vaccine. This project used an analytical decision tree to investigate the cost-effectiveness of an alternate single dose revaccination strategy among infants who don’t respond to the initial vaccine series, and helped inform the decision to change the vaccine recommendations for this sub-population of infants.
